Consider this an official invitation to join the Oregon Sports Authority in the best Labor Day bash Oregon has to offer.
OSA is hosting the 10th-annual Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon on Sept. 1 in Carlton and is committed to making this year’s edition of the race the most memorable to date.
We’re aiming to have at least 1,500 runners join us in the Willamette Valley to take a stroll through the scenic vineyards of Stoller Winery and the Lafayette neighborhood and along four American Viticulture Areas. And afterward, we’ll all taste some of the finest pinot noir samples together.
Oregon Wine Country Half is putting on a post-race Wine and Music Festival at Ken Wright Cellars, which will feature samples from more than 20 wineries, feature craft beer and ample snacks and culminate with a live performance from a popular local musical artist.
The race is a culmination of two of Oregon’s premier passions – running and fine wine – and you won’t want to miss out.
The course is as fast as it is scenic. All but 1.5 miles are run on roads and the race integrates soft, rolling hills with long and flat stretches of pavement.
It’s a perfect combination to set a personal record. Just ask last year’s runners.
In 2018, 22 men finished the race in 1:36:00-or-faster and 22 women posted a sub 1:41:00 mark.
Now, if it’s your first time running a half marathon or road race, Oregon Wine Country Half has you covered.
The race has a 2-Person Relay Challenge this year. There, you’ll split the course in half with a friend and finish the race together through the heart of Carlton.
If you really want to amplify the fun with your company, running club or close friends, consider the race’s Half Marathon Team Challenge. Here are the rules; 6-or-more people can form a team, everyone runs the full course and the top-two fastest teams in each gender category win awards (gift certificates) and wine.
Oregon Wine Country Half has awards set for the two fastest 2-Person Relay teams in all gender categories as well.
For individual racers, the stakes are even higher. OSA is handing out more than $2,000 worth of awards to the top-three male and female finishers. Here’s what we have in store:
1st Place: $500, large format bottle of wine, Award Plaque
2nd Place: $300, magnum of wine
3rd Place: $200, magnum of wine
(Gift certificates are provided for racers under age-21 instead of wine)
Click here to register and partake in a celebration of Oregon’s running and wine spirit. The individual registration fee, and runners who register on a 2-Person Relay or Half Marathon team will receive an $11 discount. Your registration fee also includes a souvenir wine glass and entry into the Wine and Music Festival, runner’s bib, chip timer, dri-fit shirt and finisher’s medal.
Here at OSA, we can’t wait to partake in the festivities with as many of you as possible come September. We’re all runners, by the way, and as patrons over the age of 21, know our way around a craft wine selection.
