NEWS
THE CASCADE LAKES HIGHWAY IS OPEN - as of Thursday
June 19, the Cascade Lakes Highway was reopened to traffic
from the gates at Elk Lake up to the top of the pass
on Mt Bachelor. Equipment difficulties stifled the
efforts of the Deschutes County Road Department, but
the road is COMPLETELY OPEN and the Pacific Crest Bike
Course for the Half Iron Triathlon will proceed as planned.
Additionally, the boat ramp at Wickiup Reservoir has
been completely repaved and the Sunriver Cutoff (Hwy
45) has been completely resurfaced and sharp corners
straightened. The road is smooth as glass and you would
be hard pressed to find a nicer road in any national
forest to ride on. Special thanks to the local, state
and federal government agencies for keeping this course
in good shape and for their constant efforts with regard
to improvements to their facilities and infrastructure
for all to enjoy. See you next weekend!
Water temperature
at Wickiup Reservoir was measured on Friday, June 20
at 61 degrees. Central Oregon weather forecast shows
warm temperatures in store for the foreseeable future,
which will further increase the water temperature for
race weekend. Since moving the swim to Wickiup in 2003,
the AVERAGE RACE DAY WATER TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN 64
DEGREES OR HIGHER.
PRIZE MONEY
The
Pacific Crest Half Iron Triathlon will again offer a

Each year, during the last full weekend in June, multi-sport
athletes from across the country converge on Central
Oregon to take part in the Pacific Crest Triathlon.
2008 marks the 12th anniversary for this event, which
has come a long way since it's inception. As the jewel
of long course triathlons here in the Northwest, the
PCT has become a destination race for athletes from
across the nation.
Triathletes who have competed around the country have
said that the Pacific Crest Triathlon is one if the
most scenic course they have raced. And coupled with
the finish in an exquisite five star destination resort
it is the perfect family vacation destination. You don't
have to take our word for it -- join us for this spectacular
event.
The event is expected to SELL
OUT, so it is advised you register as soon
as possible. There is only enough room for 1,000 bikes
in the triathlon and endurance duathlon. You don't want
to miss out on this spectacular event!
