ABOUT
THIS EVENT
My
First Tri is designed for those active athletes wanting
to make the leap into the sport of triathlon in a comfortable,
non-competitive environment. This is a "newbie"
race for the first-time triathlete. The event is designed
as a typical "Sprint Distance" race but with
a shorter swim since this particular leg (of a triathlon)
can often be the most challenging for first timers.
For this event, nearly everyone will be of the same
swimming ability, thus alleviating stress for participants
and truly making this conducive to first-time triathletes.
The overall goal of the event is focused more on completing
the race rather than a top 10 finish. The friendly and
encouraging atmosphere will surely help you in attaining
your goal - completing My First Tri - and to be able
to proudly call yourself a "triathlete"!
DISTANCES
- Individual only (no team competition):
Sprint TRIATHLON*
- 1/4mi Swim, 12mi Bike, 5k Run
(First
wave starts at 8:00 am with additional waves in 5-minute
intervals)

Blue Lake Park, Fairview, OR (15 miles east on I-84
from downtown Portland)

High school students or participants 18 years & younger
may deduct $10 from the entry fee. TRI NorthWest members
may deduct $10 from the entry fee.

REGISTRATION: On the www.racecenter.com website,
through a secured transaction. ON-LINE will close
August 2nd to prepare for packet pickup.
CONFIRMATIONS: Confirmation cards will be mailed
on 7/25
to those pre-registered by 7/20.
Participant confirmations will also be posted on the
www.racecenter.com/myfirsttri website for all mail-in
and online entries. Those registering after 7/20 may
not receive a confirmation card in the mail and are
to refer to the on-line confirmation list.

PACKET PICKUP INFORMATION
PRE-RACE DAY PACKET PICKUP: Friday, August 3, from
11am to 4pm Friday, August 3, from 11am to 4pm at
EPIC Tri Shop, 12345 SW Canyon Rd., Beaverton, OR

RACE DAY: Day of Race Registration/Packet Pickup
will take place from 6:00am until 7:30am at the Start/Finish
location. Guest lunch tickets can be purchased at
the race for $5.00.
COURSE
Swim: 1/4 mile
Triangular lake swim (water temperature in the 70's).
Bike:
Semi-closed (local traffic only) flat & fast (only
two short hills) out-and-back from Blue Lake Park
and then west on Marine Drive.
Run:
Flat and fast within Blue Lake Park and along the
Marine Drive bike path.
DETAILS
Race Results / Timing:
Timing of
the event will be done using the ChampionChip™
Timing System. Participants must wear a Timing Chip
on their ankle in order to receive splits and final
results. Results will be posted at www.racecenter.com.
Awards:
Will be presented to the Overall
Male & Female champions and Overall Masters Male
& Female champions (Overall and Masters champions
will be removed from the individual age division awards).
Awards will also be presented to the 1st thru 3rd
place finishers in each individual age division, as
well as the Open & Masters Clydesdale & Athena
divisions.
Divisions:
Individuals: 11 & Under, 12-14, 15-17,
18-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54,
55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over. Clydesdale's
(men 198 lbs & over) and Athena's (women 150 lbs &
over) in Open (39 & under) and Masters (40 & over)
divisions.
NOTE:
Awards Ceremony will commence
at the conclusion of the event and winners must pick
up their awards. Awards will
not be mailed.

RENTAL

mandatory, they are recommended. A wetsuit will keep

ON-SITE
MECHANICAL/BIKE SUPPORT
Athletes
Lounge will be at the race site to provide bike service/repairs,
parts, and accessories.
LOST AND FOUND
Any equipment that is unmarked will be returned to
the lost and found officials for participants to claim.
Please come to the event with all personal belongings
marked with your name and/or race number.
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers, including spouses and other family members
of participants, or athletes that are unable to participate
are welcome and encouraged to help with the race.
We need good volunteers to maintain the quality and
safety of this event. If you are interested in being
involved in this way, please email the AA Sports office

MEDICAL
& FIRST AID
Metro West EMT's will be on-site
for first aid support.
Dr. Tom Freedland and his
staff from the Western Chiropractic College will be
on site to provide chiropractic care, first aid, and
massage at no charge. For more information about the

TO BLUE LAKE
Blue Lake Park is located 15
miles east of downtown Portland, OR. Take I-84 east
to the Fairview Exit (exit #14). Follow the signs
to Blue Lake Park.
PARK
PASS/FEE
Portland Metro Parks
(at the front gate) will charge all vehicles a $5.00
day-use pass fee that must be displayed on your dashboard.
The park gate opens at 6:00am. NO
PETS ALLOWED IN THE PARK.
