The Cascades Edge Triathlon & Duathlon springs
onto its 6th year to bring the athletes of the NW a
fantastic early season competition on a beautiful/scenic
course in the foothills of the northern Cascades. The
Cascades Edge Triathlon & Duathlon will serves as
the predecessor to the Black Diamond Triathlon/Duathlon
(Half-Iron, Endurance Du, Olympic Tri & Du & Sprint
distances) that will be held on September 13 & 14 at
the same location. All events are TRI NorthWest Ranked
events.

Sprint Triathlon: 1/2-mi Swim - 11.2mi Bike - 2.8mi
Run
Tri-iT (novice) Triathlon: 1/4-mi Swim - 11.2mi Bike
- 2.8mi Run
Olympic Triathlon: 1.5k Swim - 40k Bike - 10k Run
Olympic Duathlon: 40k Bike - 10k Run
RACE START TIME: 9:00 am (in waves) (Duathlon
will be a Time Trial Start)
REGISTRATION
Race fee includes commemorative T-shirt, finisher medal,
ChampionChip Timing, awards and prizes, BBQ Brunch,
music, plus lots of fun and camaraderie. High school
students or participants 18 years & younger may deduct
$10 from the entry fee. TRI NorthWest members may deduct
$10 from the entry fee.

ON-LINE REGISTRATION:
On the www.racecenter.com website, through a secured
transaction. Deadline for on-line registration is
two days prior to the event.
CONFIRMATIONS:
Participant confirmations will be posted on the www.racecenter.com
website for all mail-in and online entries. Please
check the confirmation list to make sure all your
information is correct and to get your assigned race
number to expedite your packet retrieval. Cards will
be sent to all participants that have registered by
June 16th.

PACKET PICKUP/REGISTRATION:

COURSE INFO
Swim:
Open water counter clockwise swim (water temperature
in the mid 60's).
Bike:
Olympic Tri & DU- looped ride over quiet country
roads, flat to rolling hills. Head north out of Nolte
State Park on Veazie Cumberland and Cumberland/Kanaskat
Roads to the junction of Retreat Kanaskat and Kanaskat/Kangley
Roads. Continue counterclockwise around the loop on
Kanaskat/Kangley Rd, and SE 272nd St. There will be
a 2.4-Mile out-and-back section on SE 272nd St to
the west towards the city of Kent before completing
the loop on Retreat Kanaskat Rd back to the junction.
The course then heads back south to Nolte State Park.
Sprint Tri - out and back on quiet county roads,
flat to rolling hills. Begin by traveling north on
Veazie Cumberland and Cumberland/Kanaskat Roads to
the turn-around at the junction of Retreat Kanaskat
and Kanaskat/Kangley Roads, then south back to Nolte
State Park.
Run:
Quite country roads (paved) with a finish inside Nolte
State Park on a wide, beautiful nature trail (1.4-mile)
that circles the Lake. NOTE: Sprint & Tri-iT athletes
will not run outside the park, but will run TWO loops
around the lake.
MARKING: Large white swim buoys (60" diameter)
will designate the swim course. Kayakers, resident
penguins and medics and will be positioned on the
water to support the swimmers. Medical (local Fire
Department) support will be present at the finish
line.
WATER TEMPERATURE: Water temperature is expected
to be around 65 degrees. A full wetsuit is recommended
but not required.
SWIM to BIKE TRANSITION
Swimmers will exit the water and cross the timing
mats on their way into the transition area. TEAMS
must make a conversion by touching fingertips at the
designated "team tag" location within the
transition zone. The finishing team swimmer must turn
in their Timing Chip at this time. Participants must
walk or run their bike out of the transition area
and cross the timing mats before beginning their ride.
Also, helmets must be worn and fastened prior to mounting
your bike.
BIKE to RUN TRANSITION
After making the transition, runners will exit the
transition area running over a second set of timing
mats and follow the markings taking them directly
to the run course.
TEAMS: The cyclist must rack their bike and make
the conversion by touching the fingertips of their
teammate at the designated "team tag" location
within the transition zone. The finishing team cyclists
must turn in their Timing Chip at this time.
RACE
RESULTS / TIMING
Timing of the event will be
done using the ChampionChip Timing System. Participants
must wear a Timing Chip on their ankle in order to
receive splits and final results. If you own your
own Chip, please provide your seven-digit Chip code
at the time you register. NOTE: Timing Chips MUST
be returned at the conclusion of the event to avoid
a $30 replacement charge. Results will be posted

DETAILS
AGE DIVISIONS:
Individuals: 12-14, 15-17, 18-19, 20-24, 25-29,
30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69,
70-74, 75-79, 80 & over. Clydesdale's (men 198 lbs
& over) and Athena's (women 150 lbs & over) in Open
(39 & under) and Masters (40 & over) divisions.
Relay Teams: (combined 3 ages) 105 & under and 106
& over in Men's, Women's and Mixed divisions. No mountain
bike divisions.
NOTE: Awards Ceremony
will commence at the conclusion of the event and winners
must pick up their awards. Awards
will not be mailed.
RACE BIB NUMBER
Place your bib number on a piece of clothing that
will be worn during the run portion of the event.
Your bib number must be visible on the front on
the run course and when you come across the finish
line. Once again, this number should be placed on
all personal items that will be used during the
event for identification purposes.
BIKE & HELMET NUMBERS
Each participant will receive a bike and helmet
number that corresponds to his or her assigned race
number. Please place the bike number on your bike
prior to checking it in at the Lake, and place the
helmet number on the front of your helmet prior
to the start of the race.
SWIM CAPS
Swim caps will be provided based on individual wave
starts and must be worn during the swim.

PARKING
AT NOLTE STATE PARK
There is parking
at Nolte State Park (no fee), or on the surrounding
roads. Please do not park in areas that are designated
"No Parking". THERE WILL BE NO SHUTTLE BUSES.
GUESTS
Non-Participant Meal Tickets are available for purchase
at packet pickup or at the door.

LOST AND FOUND
Any equipment that is unmarked will be returned to
the lost and found officials for participants to claim.
Please come to the event with all personal belongings
marked with your name and/or race number.
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers, including spouses and other family members
of participants, or athletes that are unable to participate
are welcome and encouraged to help with the race.
We need good volunteers to maintain the quality and

FROM TACOMA: Take Highway 512 east to Puyallup.
Take the exit for Highway 410 east (pass through the
cities of Bonney Lake and Buckley). Highway 410 takes
you through Enumclaw.
FROM EAST OF ENUMCLAW: On SR 410, turn north
on 284th Ave., S.E., (look for sign) and continue
approximately seven miles to park entrance.
