Eugene Marathon Provides Access To Oregon Twilight Meet for Marathon Participants, Volunteers

EUGENE, Ore. – Participants and volunteers at the 2017 Eugene Marathon, Half Marathon, Run TrackTown 5K and Kids 1K will be given access to the Oregon Twilight Meet at historic Hayward Field, race organizers announced.

The UO Twilight Meet will be held on Friday, May 5 beginning at 3 p.m. The elite competition window from 6-7 p.m. will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.

“Being held on the Friday before the Eugene Marathon, the UO Twilight Meet is the perfect introduction to an entire weekend dedicated to celebrating all things running,” said Richard Maher, race director for the Eugene Marathon. “It’s an exciting, one-of-a-kind track and field event and we’re thrilled that participants and volunteers will be able to see it as part of the Eugene Marathon experience.”

The Oregon Twilight Meet is a fast-paced, high-powered track and field meet featuring top men’s and women’s athletes from across the U.S. and the world. With a full schedule of events, some of the best collegiate track and field athletes will do battle with Olympians and other professionals.

Access to the UO Twilight Meet for Eugene Marathon participants and volunteers will be via the Bowerman Building gate on the north end of Hayward Field. In order to gain entrance for general admission seats, participants should present their race bib at the Bowerman gate, or pick up a colored wrist band at the volunteer check-in table outside the gate. Volunteers will also gain access by picking up a wrist band at the check-in table.

“We love getting as many road running fanatics to track and field events as possible,” TrackTown USA President Vin Lananna said. “They bring the same enthusiasm and intensity to the meets as they do to their training runs and they’ll be the perfect addition to this year’s Twilight Meet.”

Besides elite track and field competition, the Oregon Twilight Meet features several special activities and recognition ceremonies:

  • Men’s and women’s Masters mile
  • Men’s and women’s Masters 200m
  • Boys’ and Girls’ Middle School mile
  • Kids’ Half-Lapper
  • Meet officials recognition
  • UO senior recognition
  • Eugene Marathon/TrackTown Community Mile

The UO Twilight Meet kicks off the 2017 outdoor track and field season at Hayward Field. It will be followed by the Pac-12 Championships (May 13-14), OSAA state championships (May 18-20), 43rd annual Prefontaine Classic (May 26-27) and the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Championships (June 7-10).
