Cascade Relays announces 2nd annual Bend Beer Chase
From press release. Bend, December 11th, 2014: Cascade Relays announces the 2nd annual Bend Beer Chase will be held on Saturday, June 6th, 2015. The Bend Beer Chase is one-day, six person running relay that showcases the best of the Central Oregon craft brewery scene. The organizers expect more than 900 runners in the second year, with 75% of the runners coming from outside of Central Oregon to enjoy a weekend of running and beer tasting. The Bend Beer Chase was a success in its first year and the excitement continues to build on the shorter relay event for runners and beer-lovers. With a team of six runners, each runner can expect to run approximately 9-11 miles, split between two legs. Throughout the event, participants will sample craft beer directly from the breweries along the course route.
Registration will open on January 1st, 2015 on the Bend Beer Chase website at www.bendbeerchase.com.
The Bend Beer Chase will showcase 16 breweries, plus the Bendistillery. The course, while not finalized, will be similar to the 2014 course. The race will start in Bend, travel to Redmond, then to Sisters and returns to Bend for the finish. The finish line and brew fest will be held at Crux Fermentation Project.
Once a team has completed the relay portion all runners on the team will complete the “Keg Leg” together. The Keg Leg, which also allows individuals to register and run the Keg Leg only, involves 6-7 brewery visits, finishing on the lawn at Crux Fermentation Project. Breweries will be providing runners a sample of their beer along with games and prizes at their location.
One-day relays are growing in popularity among the running community. Relays provide runners the opportunity to participate in a team sport, as opposed to most running events, which are an individual endeavor. One-day relays require less of a logistical or time commitment compared to the classic overnight relay, which spans two full days. The Bend Beer Chase is the first of it’s kind and the only one-day relay being offered in the Central Oregon area.
Every year Cascade Relays strives to increase their donations to in support of local charities and organizations. In 2014, over $37,000 was donated to numerous charitable and community organizations from the Cascade Lakes Relay, Spokane to Sandpoint Relay and Bend Beer Chase. Since 2008, Cascade Relays has contributed over $175,000 to these local community and charitable organizations.
