From Press Release –

6,000 competitors from across the U.S. and several foreign countries representing every walk of life, age and stage and varying degrees of athletic abilities and 2,500 spectators will converge on Washougal MX Park (Map) to tackle the Spartan Sprint 4-mile obstacle race, presented by Dial For Men on Sat. June 16, 2012.

Elite heats will start at 9:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Regular heats of up to 250 competitors each will start every 30 minutes from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The day-long events will culminate with a lively festival featuring entertainment, raffles, food, beverages, vendors and games.

Spartan Race will also host the Jr. Spartan Adventure Race benefiting Kids Fit Foundation. A leader in the movement to help children learn life-long health and fitness habits, Kids Fit Foundation strives to raise awareness and develop programs that educate, empower and inspire kids to become and stay fit.

Spartan Race is the world’s leading obstacle racing event. “The unique obstacle course will demand every ounce of strength, ingenuity and animal instinct you thought you lost three generations ago,” said Joe Desena, Spartan Race Founder, adding that course details are kept secret until competitors experience them firsthand on race day.

“Who is a Spartan Race competitor?” Desena continued. “Everyone, really – men, woman, students and seniors. Spartan Races are designed for all participants, beginners to hardcore warriors and marathon runners alike, to have fun and cross the finish line. You need a little physical conditioning and a taste for some adventure. This is not an extreme sporting event that will scare people away. It’s about the fun, getting dirty, getting down in the mud – something exciting and new,” he elaborated.

Spartan Race has teamed up with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT), creating an online training program exclusively for TNT to prepare participants for the mud running, insane obstacles and sheer physical and mental challenge. While they train, participants will raise funds to support lifesaving cancer research. Participants can also earn cool incentives! If you’re interested in running a Spartan Race with TNT, please visit www.teamintraining.org/tntspartan to learn more.

A portion of all money raised in the adult Spartan Race Series will also go to building a home through Homes For Our Troops, a national nonprofit that assists severely injured service men and women and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor as well as coordinating the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
