From Press Release –
Foot Traffic, Oregon’s Running & Walking Stores, invites you to join us on Saturday, September 29 at 10am as we unveil a life-size chainsaw carving of the famous late Oregon runner, Steve Prefontaine. Member’s Steve’s family including his sister, Anita Prefontaine as well as nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, will assist with the unveiling and be available for comments and interviews during the occasion.
The event will take place at Foot Traffic’s new downtown Portland location at 333 SW Taylor St. in the newly renovated, historic Gilbert Building. The carving was completed by a local artist from Eugene and is made out of one solid cedar log measuring 4 ft. in diameter.
In addition to the unveiling, the event will feature fun Steve Prefontaine trivia, a chance to chat with members of Pre’s family, a free group run and walk at 8am preceding the event, and complimentary drinks and food. Representatives from the Oregon Sports Authority, local race directors, and other influential members of the Portland running community will also join us that morning.
We hope you’ll join us for this unique Portland-style opportunity to commemorate both a true running legend and Oregon’s fantastic reputation as a running mecca.
