Over the Narrows, Gig Harbor – Tacoma 10 Mile Run Offers Labor Day Weekend Family Fun

From Press Release –

The second annual Over the Narrows Gig Harbor – Tacoma Run on September 3, 2011 at 8:00 am promises a day of fitness and fun for running enthusiasts and entire families. The Over the Narrows debut in 2010 received rave reviews for the unique course, efficient management and family entertainment. This year’s event is expected to attract up to 1200 runners for the chip-timed 10 mile run with spectacular views; the leisurely 2 mile Family Fun Run/Walk; the exciting Kids Dash; and the festive post-run party.

“All of the features that made Over the Narrows a unique, affordable and rewarding sport and family-friendly event are back, plus enhancements for an even more extraordinary experience,” says Paul Van Winkle, Race Director and President-Elect of Rotary Club of Gig Harbor North.

Check in starts at 7:00 am on September 3 at the Galaxy Theatres in Uptown Gig Harbor, followed by warm up exercises led by professionals from title sponsor Franciscan Health System. The chip-timed 10 mile course loops across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and back, providing runners with a unique perspective of the surrounding beautiful scenery and narrows. Top finishers receive special recognition; and custom tech shirts and stylish race medals are provided to the first 1200 registrants.

The 2 Mile Fun Run/Walk, Kid’s Dash, expanded children’s games and new senior discounts extend the appeal of Over the Narrows to all ages. Competitors in the 2011 Silver Strider Grand Prix will earn points for completing Over the Narrows.

After the run, the festivities continue at the exclusive Over the Narrows party at Uptown Gig Harbor. Runners, friends and neighbors will celebrate the day with fabulous food, live music, refreshments and beer garden, merchant discounts and more. Party admission wristbands are included with registration or available separately for a nominal donation.

“Over the Narrows offers something for everyone,” says Van Winkle. “We expect serious runners from across the Pacific Northwest to compete in the 10 mile; and we invite our neighbors from surrounding communities to take a walk and join the party while supporting worthy local causes,” he continues.

Over the Narrows is presented by Rotary Club of Gig Harbor North. All proceeds from the day’s events benefit the Club’s local and international humanitarian service projects that improve health, literacy and quality of life for families.
