Northwest Athletes Dominate USA Triathlon Long Course Duathlon National Championship

Kimberly Pancoast and Rusty Pruden outdistanced the field to claim overall titles at Sunday’s USA Triathlon Long Course Duathlon National Championship, held in conjunction with the Mount Rainer Duathlon.
Pancoast (Redmond, Wash.) won her first Long Course Duathlon national title in 2 hours, 18 minutes, 40 seconds on the 8.2-kilometer run, 46.5-kilometer bike, 6-kilometer run course, finishing 10 minutes ahead of the next closest competitor. Ann Davidson (Portland, Ore.), who won the women’s 50-54 age group, was second overall in 2:28:38, and 30-34 winner Jennifer Santoyo (Seattle, Wash.) finished third in 2:32:42 to round out the national championship podium.
Pruden (Kirkland, Wash.) won the men’s overall title and the 30-34 age group in 2:09:19. Men’s 25-29 winner Jeff Wilson (Lakewood, Ohio) was second overall with a time of 2:11:46, and Evan Pardi (Yachats, Ore.) won the 20-24 age group with the third fastest overall time of 2:12:38.
Sunday’s Long Course Duathlon National Championship also served as the lone qualifier for Team USA for the 2013 ITU Long Course Duathlon World Championships, which will take place Sept. 8 in Zofingen, Switzerland. The top 18 finishers in each age group (rolling down to 25th place) will qualify for Team USA. U.S. age-groupers earned four medals at 2012 Long Course Duathlon Worlds, which were also held in Zofingen.
