2011 Eugene Marathon In the Books

Runners turned out by the thousands for the fifth running of the Eugene Marathon on Sunday, May 1 and were greeted with clear skies and ideal conditions.

The event, which has doubled in size in the past five years, drew more than 8,800 runners and walkers for the marathon and related events over the weekend.

Runners from Colorado captured both the men’s and women’s marathon titles. 31-year-old Justin Ricks of Pueblo West, CO bested the men’s field in a time of 2:22:05 and Katie Blackett, 34, of Boulder won the women’s race in 2:44:14, setting a new course record in the process.

Participants from 48 states, four Canadian provinces and 10 countries took part in this year’s event, which finished on the track at historic Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.
