Team Dean Announces Roster Additions for 2011 Northwest Triathlon Season

From Press Release –

Team Dean is proud to announce the addition of triathlete’s Devin VansCoy (25, Salem, OR) and Jeff Nitschke (22, Beaverton, OR) to the roster for the 2011 season.

Devin is coming off of his second full season of competitive racing  in the Northwest and looking to take advantage of a formal off-season training plan for a break through year in 2011.  He recently completed his first Ford 70.3 race in Branson, MO last September and will likely shift his focus from Olympic to 70.3 distance racing for the coming season.  As many Olympic distance racers have experienced, it is a large step up when racing the long course distance.  Devin has collegiate experience running for Loras College in Iowa.  He is very new to competitive swimming and biking and will likely benefit greatly coach Tom Campbell’s extensive swimming background.

Jeff is very new to the sport of triathlon having competed in only one Olympic distance race last year.  The pouring rain and muddy transition of Blue Lake last June were enough to dampen many a racers mood, but not this first timer.  Jeff swam well and launched into a speedy ride before realizing his first flat during competition.  Undettered by this split killer, Jeff continued on and posted one of the fastest run splits on the day.  Nagging injuries have had him sidelined from racing for the remainder of the 2010 season.  Jeff has experience swimming  for Marquette University and is new to competitive riding and running.

Team Dean coach Tom Campbell is a USAT level 1 certified coach and head swim coach for Seattle Prep boys and girls.  He is an six-time Ironman and three-time Kona qualifier, as well as  former Washington high school state champion in breast stroke.  “I had a lot of success using Tom’s heart based training last season and it really provided the motivation to build some younger talents under his tutelage” said Craig Dean.

Team Dean is a grass roots multi-sport and endurance racing organization.  It is a privately sponsored team with a strategic affiliation with Portland based swimwear retailer JD Pence.
