Oregon’s official “Opening Day of the 2013 Running Season” will occur with the 35th anniversary of the adidas Shamrock Run on St. Patrick’s Day — Sunday, March 17 — at Waterfront Park in downtown Portland.
The Shamrock Run has sold out for the past three years. In honor of the 35th running, the field limit has been raised to 35,000, which will make Shamrock the third largest running and walking event on the west coast.
Online registration is underway, with entry fee discounts for team members. Shamrock offers an event for everyone with chip-timed races at distances of 5k, 8k and 15k, along with a 5k fitness walk and a 1k run/walk (The Leprechaun Lap) for children.
All participants receive an adidas short-sleeve tech fabric T-shirt, a free pour of Widmer Brothers beer (for those 21 and over), a cup of Stanford’s smoked salmon chowder, a commemorative medallion (for 15k finishers only) and a chance to “Win Your Weight in Widmer” at the post-event celebration.
Shamrock also features six bands performing along the route, bagpipers at the start area and at the 15k summit, and more live music at the entertainment stage next to the Widmer Brothers beer garden.
During the weekend, the adidas Shamrock Fitness Fair, presented by LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon, will take place on March 15 and 16 at the Oregon Convention Center. To register for the Shamrock Run, or for more information, please visit www.shamrockrunportland.com.
