Portland Track’s Our Thing Running Circuit Announced
Portland, Oregon (February 3, 2020) – Portland Track Announces inaugural schedule for the Our Thing running race circuit, bringing prize money to Portland races and elevating the local experience.
Our Thing emerged from a meeting in early 2019 where Portland Track brought local running clubs and running enthusiasts together for a candid discussion. The group expressed a shared desire to improve the regional racing scene. Portland Track Board member and former elite Jeannette Faber shared, “Individuals at that meeting had been part of the New York Road Runners circuit, Indianapolis area running events, etc.
Additionally, I had previously been part of the Boston Athletic Association which enjoys a very strong racing circuit through the USATF New England branch. I was eager to bring a similar racing experience here to Portland and it is exciting to do this in partnership with local clubs. Our intention is to support the running community by drawing talented individuals together to create a fantastic line-up of racing opportunities. We believe this will raise the bar for local races and strengthen the running scene in Portland.”
This inaugural schedule was created in support of established races hosted by local clubs and two long-standing, iconic Portland road races: the Shamrock Run and Sauvie Island Flat Half. Designed to attract a diverse group of runners, race distances range from mile to half marathon and include the track, cross country, and roads. The prize purses also include funds for top Masters runners – those 40 years and older.
Portland Track’s mission is to bring together fans, athletes, and coaches to celebrate the sport through a variety of events. Our Thing provides a way for Portland Track to continue to build and support the running community, while also incorporating a fun Portland vibe into the running circuit.
