Changes are in store for the popular Heart Breaker Half – all designed to create a better experience for the participants of one of Oregon’s only February half marathons. The 2013 Heart Breaker Half will take place on Saturday, February 9, and as in previous years, will feature a 5K, 10K Run/Walk and half marathon. The Heart Breaker Half and related events will take place at Liberty High School just off of Highway 26 in Hillsboro, OR, and includes both individual and team divisions.
AA Sports, Ltd. is also pleased to announce Providence Health & Services as the presenting sponsor of the 2013 event. Cardiologist Dr. James Beckerman, with the Providence Heart and Vascular Institute in Portland, OR, will be promoting the “Heart to Start” program which is designed to help people prepare for The Heart Breaker 5K Challenge. Dr. Beckerman, who has been featured on the Today Show, The Doctor Oz Show, and in USA Today, will lead weekly training runs at Duniway Park to prepare for the Providence 5K Challenge.
Donations will be accepted when participants register for the race for Play Smart, sponsored by Providence Heart and Vascular Institute. Play Smart provides free heart screenings for youths ages 12 to 18 and resources to learn more about sudden cardiac arrest and heart disease prevention.
A Heart Breaker post race celebration will take place with food, music, and prizes drawings. Registration is limited so don’t delay!
