Olympic Distance Course Added to Seattle’s Benaroya Research Institute Seafair Triathlon for 2011

Seafair announced today that an Olympic distance course has been added to the Benaroya Research Institute Seafair Triathlon this year!

“An overwhelming amount of our fans and participants were ready for the more challenging element, and asked us for the Olympic distance. We added the course based on their feedback,” said Jared Loranger, Director of Sports & Entertainment at Seafair.

Seafair has limited capacity for the Olympic distance course to 500 spots for the inaugural year. The picturesque sprint distance course has been voted the Pacific Northwest’s best for many years and is capped at 2,000 spots.

Event Date: Sunday, July 24 (an expo will take place the previous day)
Time: 6:30 a.m.
Location: Seward Park

Olympic Distance: 1-mile swim, 20-mile bike, 10K run.
Sprint Distance: .5-mile swim, 12-mile bike, 5K run.
Relay Teams: 2-person and 3-person.
Kids Triathlon: Kids can “tri”, too, on a fun, custom-designed course just for them!

In addition, participants can make a donation to the Benaroya Research Institute in honor of a loved one. The Benaroya Research Institute’s team of world-renowned scientists are focused on identifying causes and cures for devastating diseases including diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and cancer. BRI is an international leader in immune system and autoimmune disease research with a focus on translating laboratory discoveries to real life applications. Support your family members and friends who are battling these debilitating diseases by raising pledges today! All funds raised at the Benaroya Research Institute Triathlon will support autoimmune disease research at BRI including Type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Last year, over $28,000 was raised for the Benaroya Research Institute through the triathlon.
