Cinco De Mayo Is Best Celebration in Town

Portland, OR February 24, 2016: Cinco de Mayo is an interesting holiday.  The holiday itself commemorates the Mexican army’s unexpected victory over French invading forces in 1861.  In the US, Cinco de Mayo is often confused with Mexico’s Independence Day (which is actually on September 16, in case you were wondering).  Despite the confusion over the origin of the holiday, it remains a great excuse to get together with friends and family and party.

Join Terrapin Events May 1 for our annual Cinco de Mayo race in gorgeous downtown Portland.  The USATF certified urban half marathon / 10k / 5k run begins at Pioneer Courthouse Square, in the heart of downtown.  The half marathon course provides a challenging run up the tree-lined hills of Terwilliger Blvd and back down Barbur Blvd, offering runners a beautiful view of downtown, the Cascade mountain range and the Willamette waterfront.  The half marathon course meets up with the 10k / 5k course at Waterfront park, and continues through the heart of the Pearl district.  It is a truly unique experience for expert and beginning runners alike.  Check out our course maps for more information.

After the race is when the party really begins!  Celebrate with other runners at Pioneer Square.  Dance to live music, replenish your energy with some good food, and relax with a complimentary beer, cider, or mimosa.  While you are enjoying yourself with friends, check out our sponsor booths, where they will be giving away tons of free swag and samples.  All runners receive a commemorative t-shirt, and half marathon runners receive a custom 4” Cinco de Mayo medal.  The best part is our Cinco de Mayo race is one of the most affordable in town.
