The Whidbey Island Marathon, one of the Pacific Northwest’s hidden athletic gems, is the perfect destination race. On Sunday April 19, Whidbey Island, just north of Seattle, WA, hosts the Whidbey Island Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and 1K Kids Run. Starting at the famed Deception Pass Bridge then winding its way through picturesque ocean views and tranquil farmland, the courses promise to be exceptionally scenic.
The full marathon is a point-to-point race starting at Pass Lake. All races finish at the newly remodeled Windjammer Park on Oak Harbor Marina in beautiful Downtown Oak Harbor.
If you have aspirations of doing the Boston Marathon in 2021, the Whidbey Island Marathon is a qualifier event.
For 2020, the event has partnered with the Capital City Marathon, the North Olympic Marathon, and the Bellingham Bay Marathon to form the Salish Sea Road Race Series. All series participants who complete three of four races (any distances!) will receive commemorative Salish Sea Running Series apparel, finisher medals, and other swag at the Bellingham Bay Marathon.
So, pack up the family, or recruit a partner, and head to Whidbey Island this April to experience the country backroads, waterfront coastlines, rolling hills, and views of both snow-capped mountains and ocean waves in any one of their many race options.
