Spartan Obstacle Racing Options for Pacific Northwesterners
If you haven’t tried obstacle racing, maybe this is the year to give it a whirl. Your options are plentiful as there are a number of Spartan events on the calendar in the Pacific Northwest and surrounding states. The Spartan Trail series comes to the Portland area on August 7 with their Sprint 5K and Trail 10K. The Spartan Sprint is a 5 km, 20 obstacle race and the Spartan Trail is a 10 km, zero-obstacle trail running event.
On September 11 and 12 the Spartan series heads to the Seattle area with the Seattle North Spartan Trifecta Weekend event at the Meadow Wood Equestrian Center in Snohomish, WA. The event offers participants 4 race options which include the Beast, Super, Sprint, and a kids race. The Spartan Beast is a half marathon, 30 obstacle race engineered to push you out of your comfort zone and right up to your limits. Spartan Super is a 10 km, 25 obstacle race that blends speed, endurance and technical skill. Spartan Kids is a series of obstacle course races, ranging from 800m to 3.2km, specifically designed to get kids ages 4-14 outside, feeling accomplished and having fun.
There is a Trail 10K, Ultra 50K, and Beast 21K in North Lake Tahoe on September 25 and a Super 10K and Sprint 5K in Sacramento on November 13.
