Five Reasons to Run the Capital City Marathon

The Capital City Marathon, now in its 36th year, is the oldest marathon in the South Sound. The Boston Qualifier boasts rolling hills, enthusiastic support, and gorgeous surroundings – from Olympia’s vibrant downtown core, to the shores of Budd Inlet, to the rural landscape of Boston Harbor and South Bay, to fun and friendly local neighborhoods, to the majestic architecture on the Capitol Campus. Joan Benoit ran part of the current course in 1984, when she won the first women’s Olympic Marathon Trials.

Five reasons to run the Capital City Marathon

1.     Beautiful course. “One of the prettiest courses I’ve ever run. Town, forest, fields, neighborhoods, a high bridge, and even the state Capitol.” – Jan

2.     Second-to-none swag. “CCM has the best bling – shirts, hats, sweatpants, jackets, medals …” – Clinton

3.     Phenomenal course support. “It’s a 100 percent volunteer effort to pull off this race. The volunteers on the course are awesome and greatly appreciated.” – Debbie

4.     Fantastic downhill finish and incomparable post-race experience.
“The last mile is unbelievable, with the wonderful downhill past the Capitol and down the middle of the road to the crowds near the finish. You can really think of it as a 25.2-mile race, with an extra celebratory mile.” – Andy
“The finish area is fantastic: food, massages, music, photos ops …” – D. Gardner

5.     Great value. “The price is right.” – Ron
