SOME BASICS:

  • Water temperature expected to be between 62 & 66 degrees (wetsuits are recommended).

  • Bring two large towels to place your items on at the transition areas.

  • Mark all of your equipment with your bib number and name to insure all items are returned to you.

  • Remember to bring adequate clothing. Temperatures can vary from 38 to 90 degrees from midnight to mid-day.

  • Remember, we are guests of Central Oregon and Sunriver.  Please respect the area by not littering or defacing property (which includes not painting words of encouragement on the roads and discarding gel packets).

  • Remember to pick up your race packet with Timing Chip at packet pickup on Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. or Saturday between 1:00p.m. and 5:00 p.m. in the Athletic Village.

  • Schedule your bus seat(s) for transportation to the lake when you register. Buss passes may not be available at Friday's Packet Pickup.

  • Guests can purchase dinner tickets at Packet Pickup, or at the door of each event (Dinners are included in the entries for 1/2 Iron & Endurance Duathlon athletes only).

  • Bring your family! Have a good time!

M.O.A.Q's (Most Often Asked Questions)

Q. Can you tell me about the Bike Course?

A. The course is relatively flat for the first 11.5 miles or so. Shortly after reaching FS Hwy 40 and turning right you will begin a sustained climb of about ¾ mile. The elevation gain is approximately 400 ft.

Q. Will the swim be shortened if the water is too cold.

A. No. Since we have moved from Crescent Lake the water temperature has always been 61 degrees or warmer, and with our move to Wickiup Reservoir the temperature of the water has always been 63 degrees or warmer.

Q.  Will drafting be allowed on the bike?

A.  Absolutely NO DRAFTING!!!

Q.  Is there a Clydesdale/Athena division for PCT and if so, what are the weights and will you be doing an official weight in?

A.  The race does have Clydesdale (198lbs) and Athena (150lbs) divisions for age groups 39 & under and 40 & over. We will not be doing an official weigh-in at Packet Pickup. We will be doing an official weigh-in at Packet Pickup.

Q. Will there be wave starts for the Triathlon?

A.  Yes.  Wave starts will be based on the number of registered participants in each age group and waves will not exceed 150 participants. Wave start times are provided on this website.

Q.  Do I have to wear a full body wetsuit?

A.  We recommend full body wetsuits, but they are not required.

Q. How many participants are you expecting this year?

A. We are planning for a full race - capacity is 1,000 total bikes at Gull Point

Q.  Do you have the number for camping in the area?

A.  The general # for camping is 1-800-280-CAMP.

Q. Can my wife pick-up my equipment at the Bike/Run Transition (T2)?

A. No. Only participants (wearing their wrist band and race number) are allowed to pick up equipment.  This is a rule that must be enforced for the security and safety of all participants' property.

Q. What is the weather going to be like?

A. It is typically warm, with clear sunny skies at this time of year (70's in the morning with temperatures climbing into the upper 80's and possibly low 90's in the afternoon).

Q.  How do I get my bike and other equipment to the lake?

A.  Participants are responsible for transporting their own equipment to the lake. The lake transition zone (T1) will be open and secure for checking-in bike gear starting at 12:00 noon on Friday and starting again on Saturday at 6:00 a.m. Hired security will be stationed at the lake all night and the transition area will be fenced and under lights.

Q. Are vehicles allowed to park at the lake?

A. There will be a specified location for vehicle parking, however it is very limited and we strongly recommend that you to take advantage of the shuttle busses. Shuttle buses will be transporting people to the site of the competition (Please read the Limited Parking at the Lake notice).

Q. How will I get my stuff back from the lake?

A. Race participants are required to place all personal gear into their marked bag (and tie them) provided at packet pickup. Race Officials will transport the bags to the Athlete Village. Participants must pick up their personal items at T2 by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. (Note -The bike/run transition area will be officially closing at 5:00 p.m.)

Q.  How do I get to the lake?

A.  Buses will be available to transport participants to the lake from the bike/run transition (Three Rivers Elementary School) beginning at 6:30 a.m. race morning, and leaving every 15 minutes up till 8:00 am. Participants (and spectators) must pre-register with prefered departure times in order to secure a seat on a bus ($10.00 per bus ticket). Signage will also be on the road to direct participants to the lake if they still choose to drive themselves. The ride is approximately 28 miles.

Q.  Are there restrooms on the buses?

A.  No!  Restrooms will be available at both T2 and at T1.

Q.  Are participant support vehicles or spectator vehicles allowed on the bike or run courses?

A.  No!  Unofficial support crews/vehicles are not allowed on the race course. For the safety of the participants, we encourage all vehicles carrying spectators to return to Sunriver via an alternate route.  The run course is almost entirely on bike paths circling Sunriver so there are no vehicles allowed.

Q.  Can I bring my bike and equipment to the lake on race day morning? 

A.  Yes - but again we strongly urge you to bring your bike to the lake on Friday and take the shuttle buses with the rest of the athletes. If you cannot get your bike to the lake Friday then you may do so on race day morning beginning at 6:30 a.m. You must be checked in at the lake by 8:40 a.m. Please follow the directions of Race Officials directing the traffic/parking at the lake.

Q.  Will there be aid stations on the bike and run courses?

A.  There are no aid stations on the bike course. We recommend that each athlete bring with them on their bikes two full bottles of fluid. There will be aid at the swim/bike (T1) and bike/run (T2) transitions, as well as at the finish line. The run course will have aid stations approximately every mile (water & electrolyte).

Q. What food will be provided on the bike and run courses?

A. Participants are responsible for providing their own food supplements on the bike course. Water, Gatorade and energy gel will be provided at T2. Water, Gatorade and energy gel will also be available on the run course.

Q.  I cannot get to Sunriver until late Saturday night.  Can I pick up my packet on day of race?

A.  Due to logistics, it is important that all participants sign-in and pick up their packets on Saturday by 5:00 p.m.  Please make arrangements with AA Sports, Ltd. if your schedule will not allow you to meet this requirement, (503) 644-6822, or e-mail events@racecenter.com.

Q. Are there any shower facilities at the finish line?

A.  Yes! Showers will be available at the South Swimming Pool.  Shower passes must be picked up at the finish line (Athlete Center).  Participants must bring their own towel. There will also be a cooling shower in the Athlete Tent to rinse and cool off when you finish the race.

Q. What time does the duathlon start?

A. The Duathlon starts at the same time as the swim start - 9:00 a.m. It will proceed in a time trial fashion with two riders starting approximately every 15 seconds. Duathletes will line up in two parallel lines 10 feet prior to the start mats, first come, first to start.

Q. What if I want to switch from being a triathlon participant to a duathlon participant?

A. This will be possible during the packet pick-up on Friday and Saturday, but this is discouraged on the day of the race.
