SWIM
Water temperature
expected to be between 62 & 66 degrees
(wetsuits are recommended)
- No fins, paddles, artificial
propulsion equipment or flotation devices are allowed.
- Swim goggles and faceplates
may be worn.
- If you are a slower swimmer,
move to the rear and to the outside of the swim
group.
- Take notice where the swim
course is directed and landmarks that may assist
you during your swim.
- If you need assistance,
move to the inside of the course and raise your
hand and call out with a loud voice.
BIKE
- Cyclists are personally
responsible for the proper working condition of
their bike.
- Normal forms of self-propelled
bicycles are acceptable. Recumbent bicycles are
not allowed.
- Aerodynamic handlebars,
disc wheels/covers are allowed.
- Devices designed exclusively
to reduce air resistance are prohibited.
- Mountain bikes are not recommended
for this event.
- ANSI, ASTM or Snell approved
helmets are mandatory.
- Helmets must be securely
fastened prior to exiting the transition
zone and mounting your bike.
- No headphones are allowed
during the race.
- No outside assistance may
be received to make the actual repairs to your bicycle.
You may receive the use of another participants
tools or parts but you must make the repairs by
yourself.
- No unofficial support crews
or vehicles are allowed on the racecourse.
- Absolutely NO DRAFTING or
BLOCKING of another bike or any other vehicle is
allowed. Contestants must ride single file on the
outside (far right side) of the road except when
passing another rider. Side by side riding is prohibited.
Overtaking riders may pass on the inside (on the
left) of the road, however you may never cross the
centerline while passing or at any other time. Once
you have entered another cyclists draft zone (3
bike lengths) you have only 15 seconds to make the
pass. If you are unsuccessful you must drop back
a minimum of three bike lengths. You may not come
into and drop out of another cyclists draft zone
on a regular basis. Once you enter the zone you
must pass. If you are unable to and you repeat this
action you will be penalized for drafting. After
a successfull pass, you must move back onto the
outside (far right side) of the road. Riders must
keep a three bike-length distance between bikes
except when passing. An overtaken rider must fall
back three bike-lengths before attempting to regain
the lead from a front running bike.
- Cyclists may walk their
bikes if necessary.
- Participants must follow
all instructions by the Deschutes County Sheriff,
US Forest Service, and course monitors.
- Crossing the center line
of the road, unless otherwise directed, will result
in a disqualification.
- Ride defensively. Be aware
of road conditions, vehicular traffic, and other
competitors. REMEMBER - the road is NOT
closed to vehicle traffic.
- Always ride to the outside
(far right) of the road staying to the right of
the fog line.
- Due to the distance of the
bike ride, two pre-mounted water bottles are recommended
for sufficient fluid needs (reference Bike Course
for information regarding bottle exchanges on the
bike course).
- When exiting, entering and
within the transition area, there is no riding of
your bicycle. You must be on foot.
- Anyone spotted discarding
garbage on the race course, will be disqualified.
- Follow all race officials'
directions.
RUN
- Competitors
may run or walk the run course.
- No headphones are allowed
during the run.
- Unregistered
pace runners are not allowed on the course.
- Race
numbers must be worn and be visible from the front.
- Aid
stations will be located at approximately every
mile, and porta potties every other mile on the
run course.
- Please
be sportsmanlike to spectators, volunteers, police,
etc. Your courtesy reflects on the future of this
race.
AWARDS
Awards will be presented to the top Overall Male and
Female, and the top Overall Masters Male and Female
champions (1st place Overall Male and Female and Masters
Male and Female will be removed from the individual
age division awards). The top three males and females
in each individual age division (including Clydesdale
& Athena divisions) will receive awards, along with
the top two teams in each team division (men's, women's
and mixed).
RACE RESULTS
Timing of the event will be done using the ChampionChip
Timing System. Participants must wear a Timing Chip
on their ankle in order to receive splits and final
results. If you own your own Chip, please provide your
Chip number (7 alpha-numeric characters) at the time
you register.
Efforts will be made to post unofficial results at
the finish line within 15 minutes of each participant
finishing the race. All splits will be posted by the
end of the awards ceremony. Final results, including
individual pictures and stories, will be posted on the
RaceCenter NW web site (www.racecenter.com).
AGE DIVISIONS
Individual: 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39,
40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79,
80 & over, Clydesdales (men 198 lbs) & Athena (women
150 lbs) in Open (39 & under) and Masters (40 & over)
divisions
Relay Team (Triathlon): combined three ages
- 105 & under, 106 & over, in Men's, Women's and Mixed
divisions
Relay Team (Duathlon): combined two ages - 70
& under, 71-90 & 90 & over, in Men's, Women's and
Mixed divisions
