KIDS SPLASH, PEDAL & DASH - FOR AGES 12& UNDER
FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 2012

Pacific Crest Kid's Splash Pedal-n-Dash has also become a major fundraiser for the Three Rivers Care for Kid's Foundation. This year's event is expected to again surpass 600 kids, and triple that with moms and dads and grandpas and grandmas watching on the sidelines. All adult athletes participating in the Pacific Crest Weekend are encouraged to bring out their kids to participate in this fun event designed just for kids to help kids. And for those who have not brought their young ones to Sunriver come out anyway to cheer the other kids on and to support the Three Rivers Care for Kid's Foundation.

Our traditional splash, pedal & dash has moved to a new location at the Sunriver Community Church which still remains within walking distance to and from the village. Follow the "Kids Start" signs and balloons from the upper village parking lot through the Fremont Crossing Townhomes into the church parking lot which will now be the transition area. Due to construction and safety concerns, the distances have changed to a spectator-friendly 1/4 mile bike & 1/4 mile run. Kids will start the splash at the top of the church parking lot by running through 2 wading pools. They will be directed down into the parking lot to get their bikes and back out onto the bike path along Beaver Dr. , through the tunnel and around the backside of the church. Kids will enter transition and be directed out on the run path along Abbot Dr. toward the finish at the village where the Kids Zone Inflatable Play area is next to Kids Registration. You will be able to get to and from the church via the path through the townhome community and meet up with your child in the Kids Zone area. This will prevent kids from wandering off without a parent and a fun way to finish without clogging up the run course. Below is a guideline for the transition area, start times and how to prepare your child. We have many changes this year to improve the safety and ability to watch your little ones while on the course so please respect the timelines we are providing as we will strictly enforce them to ensure there is enough room in transition for the kids to enter and exit.

GENERAL SCHEDULE

2pm: Transition area opens for bike check in. Lay your child's bike on the parking line behind their age cone. Handlebars should be facing the center of the parking lot where you see the marked tunnels for your child to get out to the bike & run. PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHILD'S BIKE HELMET AS THEY WILL NEED TO START WITH IT ON.

3:45pm: Transition area closes. All kids and parents should be in the spectator and staging area outside of the transition zone. Please do not climb over, under or through the fencing. Bikes not placed in transition area by this time will not be allowed and must be held onto by the parent until their child completes the splash. The parent will then be allowed to hold the bike for the child at the end of the pools and the child will need to walk it back into transition, through the exit tunnel and out of the parking lot.

All starts will be two at a time through the wading pools. Once the first two age groups are all done with the bike portion and headed out onto the run, we will send the kids off non-stop in the following order until everyone is done. Kids must have their SHOES, BIB AND BIKE HELMET ON AT THE START. Before the race, please don't allow kids to get close to the timing mats by the pools as their time will be activated. If you want two of your children to go together but they are in different groups, please choose the younger group to start your children in.

4pm:

Group 1: 4 & Under (w/parents)...Parents walk beside pools and stay with kids on course
Group 2: Age 5 & 6: (no parents) (Exceptions made for children not ready to venture out on their own. Please check in at splash start with Staff member when it is your child's turn)
*Once all kids in the above groups have finished the bike, the older children will be started.
Group 3: Age 11 & 12 (no parents)
Group 3
: Age 9 & 10 (no parents)
Group 4: Age 7 & 8 (no parents)

Approx. 5:30pm: Transition opens for parents/kids to get their bikes. It will depend on all the kids being off the bike course. Wait behind the fencing until we announce it is open.

Parents will be allowed to spectate and take pictures from behind the fencing during the splash and as they come in from the bike and out onto the run. You may be able to meet up with your child on the run course or take the townhome path back to the village and meet them at the finish line where they will be held in the Kid Zone until your arrive. Always use gates to cross and don't cross over, through or under any fencing. This will allow the safest environment for all.

Safety Tip: Write your name and cell phone number on the back of your child's bib at the registration table!!

Kids will be timed using the ChampionChip Timing System (Chip will be on race bib), but the event is considered non-competitive. No awards will be given out. All Kid's will receive a finisher medal and T-shirt as well as a huge applause when they cross the finish line.

All proceeds of the Kid's Splash Pedal-n-Dash go to the Three Rivers Care for Kid's Foundation.
