*THIS EVENT IS DESIGNATED AS THE TRI NORTHWEST OLYMPIC DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2008 - See www.trinw.com for details

ABOUT THIS EVENT
2008 marks the 25th anniversary for the Hagg Lake Triathlon. This event has maintained and continues to expand its' popularity based on its race history, scenic beauty, and challenge.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 12th.

All the events are included in the TRI NorthWest Rankings except the TRI-IT. The Olympic Distance Triathlon will serve as the TRI NorthWest Olympic Distance Championship.

Race History - Back in 1982, a small company by the name of Anheuser-Busch decided to get involved with a sport that was growing steadily in popularity - triathlon. For those of you who have been in the sport long enough, the Bud Light triathlon series may ring a bell.

The Hagg Lake Triathlon was one of the stops on the six-city Bud Light Triathlon Series tour. Th Northwest actually played host to two of the six event, the other taking place in the Seattle area (Mercer Island in '82 and Bainbridge Island in '83). The Bud Light Series actually continued to criss-cross the country through the mid-90's, but only continued it's Hagg Lake stop until 1987.

The Bud Light Triathlon Series played an integral part in jumpstarting the sport of triathlon here in the Northwest. The venue really hasn't changed much since the early eighties. The water's still wet and the bike course is still challenging.

COURSE

Olympic Distance:
The Hagg Lake course is famous for its race history, scenic beauty, and challenge.  The swim is a two counter clockwise laps, 1500 meter triangular with water temperatures in the mid 70's.  The bike course is challenging with rolling hills.  Cyclists will complete two counter-clockwise loops around the lake.  Both loops will include a two mile out and back section on Scoggins Valley Road.  The 6.2mile run is also scenic and challenging, with an out and back course clockwise along the lake side road.

Sprint Distance:
The Sprint course is basically a shortened version of the Olympic distance, which will include a 1/2-mile swim, one complete loop (including one out-and-back on Scoggins Valley Road) on the bike, and a 5k run.

Duathlon:
Duathlon participants will begin with a 5k run. The bike portion consists of two counter-clockwise loops around the lake. Each loop will include the two mile out and back section that the triathletes will also cover. The final run will take place on the same course as the first leg (5K) of the duathlon. (this event is a TRI NorthWest Duathlon ranked race)

Aid Stations:
Water will be provided at approximately each mile on the run (which will provide two water stops for the 5k distance and five water stops for the 10k distance).
