PRE-RACE PREPARATION

  • Have your bike in good working condition. Bike support will be on-site at the transition zone starting at 7:00 a.m. on race day.

  • Make sure you are keeping yourself well hydrated.

  • Pick up your packet and Timing Chip on Friday, Sept 12th from 12:00noon until 6:00pm, or on the morning of the race between 6:30am & 8:30am. There will be NO packet pickup or bike drop-off on Saturday due to the time constraints of the Half Iron Triathlon.

  • Make sure all your personal property is clearly marked with your race bib number.

  • Note!! There is very limited parking available at the lake. For the safety of the cyclists there will be areas of no parking on the sides of the road by the park. There is a designated event parking area about ¼ mile north of the park, or in Cumberland (1.5 miles north of the park). When bringing your gear on race morning, you can drop it off and then head for the athlete parking.

  • Pin your bib number on a garment/race belt you will be wearing during the run. The bib must be placed on the front side of your body and be clearly visible as you cross the finish line.

  • Put the bike number (you will receive in your packet) on your bike prior to bringing it into the transition zone as well as your bike helmet number on your helmet.

  • Be sure that you have handlebar plugs secured. For your own safety, having the ends of your handlebars plugged is a requirement. You will receive a time penalty for failing to respect this rule.

  • Check-in at the lake no later than 8:15 a.m. to get your body marked.

  • Take your racing accessories and check in with the appropriate official at the transition area. (Only competitors are allowed in the transition areas).

  • Find your pre-assigned bike space (based on your race number). Arrange your gear properly for transition.

  • Prior to the start all participants must have their Timing Chip securely fastened to their ankle to be worn throughout the duration of the event. It is appropriate to wear it under your wet suit. After taking off your wetsuit make sure that your Timing Chip is still on your ankle and not inside your wetsuit.

TEAMS: Each team member must wear their own assigned Timing Chip (teams please remember to turn in your Chip at your hand-off location within the transition zone).

  • Report to the starting area at least 15 minutes prior to race start.

  • Listen carefully to all pre-race instructions.

  • Once the race has started, be careful and considerate of volunteers, spectators, and fellow competitors.

POST RACE NOTES

  • At the completion of your race turn your Timing Chip in to the finish line officials (teams: swimmers & cyclists can return their Timing Chips in to the official at the Team Tag area). Participants will be charged $30 for any unreturned Timing Chips.

  • If you need medical assistance, ask a finish line official to lead you to the medical area. (The medical support will be located at the physical finish line).

  • Drink the necessary fluids to maintain body equilibrium. If it is unusually humid or warm, be sure to drink lots of water.

  • To collect your bicycle and racing gear, go to the transition area with your bib number on. No one will be allowed in the transition area unless they have a race bib number on. The transition area will be staffed with race officials.

  • If you discontinue the race, please notify an official on the course or at the finish line and return your Timing Chip to the finish line.

  • In the case of reported race violations; decisions by the race management are final and binding.

YOUR RACE PACKET
Packet pickup will be held on Friday, September 12th from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. at Nolte State Park (official start/finish line). Due to the time frame of the Half-Iron event, there will be NO packet pickup or bike set up on Saturday for the Sunday events. There will also be day of race registration and packet pickup at Nolte State Park from 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.

RACE BIB NUMBER
Place your bib number on a piece of clothing that will be worn during the run portion of the event. Your bib number must be visible on the front on the run course and when you come across the finish line. Once again, this number should be placed on all personal items that will be used during the event for identification purposes.

BIKE & HELMET NUMBERS
Each participant will receive a bike and helmet number that corresponds to his/her assigned race number. Please place the bike number on your bike prior to checking it in at the Lake, and place the helmet number on the front of your helmet prior to the start of the race.
