The Long Course Tri Bike course has taken on a dramatic
change from past years and is now comprised of two
loops of the Olympic Bike Course along with a short
loop to the south of Nolte State Park. Total course
length is 56 miles. Begin by heading north on the
Veazie-Cumberland Rd to the junction of Retreat Kanaskat
& Kanaskat-Kangley Roads (5.7 miles). Bear right
onto the Kanaskat-Kangley Rd to the junction of the
Kent-Kangley Rd (8.6 miles). Turn right and head west
on the Kent Kangley towards the town of Kent. You
will pass the Retreat-Kanaskat road (on the left side)
and turn right onto 292nd Ave SE (14.65 miles). The
next 1.4 miles is an out & back on 292nd, then
continue west on the Kent-Kangley for 0.6 miles to
TA Point #2 (15.25 miles). Head back east and bear
right onto the Retreat Kanaskat Rd (16.05 miles) and
the junction of Veazie-Cumberland & Kanaskat-Kangley
Roads (19.15 miles). Bear right onto the Veazie-Cumberland
Rd and head south back to Nolte State Park (24.75
miles). Continue south past the park for 3.2 miles
to SE 416th St where you will turn left (27.95 miles).
Travel east for a short distance before 416th turns
left (north) and becomes 292nd Way SE. You will merge
back onto the Veazie-Cumberland Rd at about the 29.7
mile mark and continue north back past Nolte State
Park (31.20 miles) to begin the second loop to the
north. This second loop is identical to the first
loop to the north and you will finish the ride by
turning into Nolte State Park and the Transition Zone
(56 miles). Note! You will NOT ride south past
the park a second time!
The bike course is on nicely paved country roads
over some rolling hills. The first 1.4 mile out &
back on 292nd Ave SE is an average grade up to the
TA Point, then downhill back to the Kent-Kangley Rd.
All major turns are monitored by the King County Sheriff
(11 total officers) who will provide you with the
right-of-way at all times.
RUN - 13.1 mi
Flat to gentle rolling hills, this looped course is
on quiet county roads, with a finish on a wide unpaved
nature trail that circles the lake. Do expect to see
light vehicle traffic (local residents). The entire
course outside of Nolte State Park is on nicely paved
roads leaving only approximately 1.5 miles on nature
trails within the park only.
Begin by exiting the transition out to the parking
lot and directly south to 300th Ave SE (0.1 mi). Run
along the south edge of the park within the coned lane
turning left into the bike lane where 300th Ave meets
the Veazie-Cumberland Rd (VCR) and proceed to the main
park entrance where the County Sheriff will stop traffic
as you transition to the east side of the VCR (0.35
mi). Now run along the east bike lane of the VCR for
one mile and turn left onto SE 384th St remaining on
the left or north side of the road (1.35 mi). Continue
eastbound for 0.35 miles to the aid station just prior
to the RR Tracks, then another 0.65 miles to the TA
Point #1 at the end of 384th St (2.35 mi). Make the
turn-around and return, on the south side of the road,
all the way back to the VCR where you will turn left
(south) once again into the bike lane of the VCR (3.35
mi). Run south for 0.45 miles and turn right onto 292nd
Ave SE where you will encounter aid station #2 (3.8
mi). 292nd Ave is a very quiet road with several turns.
You may want to cross over to the side providing the
best site distance as opposed to traditionally running
against traffic at all times. Continue on 292nd Ave
for approximately one mile and turn left onto SE 408th
St (4.85 mi). Just past the intersection there is another
aid station on the opposite side of the road which you
will pass again on your way back. Continue eastbound
for approximately 0.85 miles to TA Point #2 at the base
of the hill approximately 5.7 miles into the run), then
return back to 292nd Ave NE on the south side of the
road again opposing traffic (6.55 mi). Again you will
hit aid station #3 just prior to the intersection before
turning right for a very short out and back (0.15 mi)
on 292nd Ave. TA Point #3 is at mile 6.7. Cross over
to the west side of 292nd Ave and run north past SE
408th St back to the intersection of the VCR and aid
station #2 (8.0 miles). We will now retrace our steps
back to 384th St and turn right (east - 8.4 miles);
back to TA Point #1 at the east end of 384th St (9.4
mi); now back to the VCR after passing aid station #1
(10.4 mi); turn right onto the VCR back to the main
park entrance (11.4 mi); then retrace your steps back
into the park via SE 300th Ave (11.75 mi). Finish the
1/2 marathon with a single loop on the wide unpaved
nature trail clockwise around the lake.
SPECIAL NOTE: The
rough potholed section of the run no longer exists.
This section was removed in 2010.
