Inaugural Over The Narrows, Gig Harbor-Tacoma Run To Benefit Humanitarian Service Projects

Scenic views from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge will be a highlight for participants in the first annual Over the Narrows Gig Harbor-Tacoma Run on Saturday, September 4, 2010. Presented by Rotary Club of Gig Harbor North, the Labor Day weekend event offers a variety of activities to benefit the club’s humanitarian service projects in surrounding communities and abroad.

The premier Over the Narrows course is a 10-mile run from Gig Harbor across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and back.  A two-mile Fun Run/Walk and short Kids Dash supplement the premier run, all starting at 8:30 am from the Galaxy Theatres in Uptown Gig Harbor. Ten mile and two mile participants receive a commemorative Tech T-shirt and custom race medal, with additional awards for top finishers.  Festivities will continue at a post run party in the Rotunda of Uptown Gig Harbor, featuring food and entertainment by The Shy Boys Band.

“We wanted to launch an event that appeals to running enthusiasts, offers family fun and capitalizes on a local landmark and its spectacular surroundings,’ says Tom Brown, Fundraising Director for Rotary Club of Gig Harbor North. “Over the Narrows fits the bill, while funding projects that benefit children and families and supporting our local economy,” he continues.
